Hair Trends 2025

What's trending, what's staying, and what you can actually wear in real life.

Predictions from stylists who see thousands of heads of hair a year—not fashion editors who see runway shots.

Real Talk About Hair Trends

Every January, you see the same thing: "10 Hair Trends You MUST Try!" accompanied by photos of models with impossible-to-maintain styles shot in perfect lighting. Then you go to a salon, try to explain what you want, and end up with... something that doesn't quite match.

I'm writing this from Chris David Salon in Delray Beach (403 E Atlantic Ave, 4.9★ from 140+ clients) after over a decade of translating "trend" into "wearable." Here's what's actually happening in 2025, what's worth trying, and what you can safely ignore.

How to Read This Guide

🔥 TRENDING UP

We're seeing more requests every month. Worth considering if it suits your style.

↔️ HOLDING STEADY

Classic for a reason. Not "trendy" but reliably good-looking and wearable.

↘️ TRENDING DOWN

Peaked. Still looks good but no longer the "it" style. Evolving into something else.

Haircut Trends 2025

🔥

The "Expensive" Bob

TRENDING UP • Wearability: 9/10

Not your mom's blunt bob. This is textured, slightly undone, looks effortless but costs $200+ to execute properly. Think less geometric, more "I woke up like this (but in a wealthy neighborhood)."

The Details:

  • Length: Jaw to collarbone (varies based on your proportions)
  • Texture: Internal layers create movement without obvious "steps"
  • Finish: Slightly undone—looks expensive because it doesn't try too hard
  • Works for: Most face shapes, straight to wavy hair, professional women who want low maintenance

Why it's trending: Instagram burnout from high-maintenance styles. People want to look polished without 40 minutes of styling. This delivers.

🔥

Curtain Bangs 2.0

TRENDING UP • Wearability: 7/10

Curtain bangs peaked in 2023, died in early 2025, and are back with an evolution: longer, softer, more face-framing than "bangs." It's the gateway bang—commitment-phobic friendly.

The 2025 Version:

  • Length: Cheekbone to chin (longer than 2023 version)
  • Part: Soft center part that can shift
  • Integration: Blends seamlessly into layers (not a separate "bang" section)
  • Maintenance: Trim every 6-8 weeks or they become regular face-framing layers

Caution: If you have very curly or coarse hair, these require daily styling or they'll just be annoying short pieces. Ask your stylist if they'll work with your texture.

↔️

Long Layers (The Eternal)

HOLDING STEADY • Wearability: 10/10

This will never not be popular because it works. Not exciting, not editorial, just... reliably good-looking on almost everyone.

The 2025 update: Layers start lower (below shoulders) for more weight at the bottom. Less "Friends Rachel" energy, more modern elegance.

↘️

The Shag

TRENDING DOWN • Wearability: 5/10

Had its moment. Still looks good on the right person but no longer the "must-have" cut. Problem: requires specific styling to not look messy (not in a good way).

If you have one: Let it grow out into long layers or commit to the styling. Half-grown-out shags are awkward.

🔥

The Mixie

TRENDING UP • Wearability: 6/10

Mullet + pixie = mixie. Short sides and back, longer textured top and front. Edgy but wearable. Big in coastal cities (including Delray Beach).

Reality check: Requires regular maintenance (every 3-4 weeks) and daily styling. Don't get this if you're a "wash and go" person.

Color Trends 2025

🔥

"Lived-In" Color

TRENDING UP • Maintenance: Low

The anti-high-maintenance color. Looks like you spent months at the beach (but in a controlled, intentional way). Soft roots, dimension, movement—nothing harsh or obviously "done."

What It Actually Means:

  • Root shadow: Darker roots that blend seamlessly (no harsh line)
  • Multi-tonal: 3-5 complementary shades instead of one flat color
  • Placement: Concentrated around face and ends (where sun would naturally lighten)
  • Touch-ups: Every 10-16 weeks vs. 6-8 for traditional highlights

Why stylists love it: Forgiving grow-out, works with client's budget and schedule, always looks intentional.

🔥

Expensive Brunette

TRENDING UP • Maintenance: Medium

Backlash against blonde dominance. Rich, glossy brunette with subtle dimension. Think chocolate with caramel ribbons, espresso with honey tones.

The Formula:

  • • Deep brown base (level 4-6)
  • • Strategic highlights 1-2 shades lighter
  • • Glosses to maintain shine (every 4-6 weeks)
  • • Warm tones (caramel, honey, copper) OR cool tones (ash, mocha) but COMMIT to one
🔥

Butter Blonde

TRENDING UP • Maintenance: Medium-High

Replacing icy platinum and brassy yellow. It's soft, warm, creamy blonde—like literally the color of butter. Feels natural, not bleached.

Requirements: Starting point matters. If you're darker than level 6, this requires pre-lightening. Budget for toner every 4-6 weeks to prevent brassiness.

↘️

Money Piece Highlights

TRENDING DOWN • Peaked 2022

Those ultra-bright face-framing pieces. Still being requested but waning. Problem: grew out poorly and looked dated quickly.

The evolution: If you loved money pieces, try "expensive brunette" or lived-in color with face-framing brightness—same effect, better longevity.

↔️

Natural Red (Strawberry/Copper)

HOLDING STEADY • Maintenance: High

Not trend-driven—some people just love red. The 2025 versions are softer: strawberry blonde, rose gold, warm copper (not fire engine).

Commitment level: Red fades faster than any other color. Expect color-depositing products, cool water washes, and glosses every 3-4 weeks.

Texture & Styling Trends 2025

🔥 Natural Texture

Curly girls, wavy girls—your time has come. 2025 is about working WITH your texture instead of fighting it with heat tools.

What's driving it: Heat damage awareness, time savings, TikTok curl education

🔥 Wet-Look Styling

Slicked-back, glossy, intentionally "undone." Think gel (yes, gel is back) and shine products for that fresh-from-the-shower aesthetic.

Wearability: 6/10 (looks amazing for events, maybe not daily office wear)

↘️ Beach Waves

Peaked. Everyone has beach waves. It's the new "nothing"—default hairstyle. Still looks good, just not noteworthy.

The evolution: More defined curls OR straighter, sleeker styles

🔥 "Undone" Updos

Messy buns, claw clips, loose ponytails. Anti-polished. Pieces falling out is the point.

Why: Backlash against influencer-perfect everything

What's Trending in Treatments

🔥 Scalp Treatments

Hair health starts at the scalp. Exfoliating scrubs, oil treatments, scalp facials—this is the fastest-growing salon service category.

At Chris David Salon, we've added scalp analysis to all color consultations. Prevention > correction.

🔥 Bond-Building Treatments

Olaplex started it. Now everyone's doing it. These rebuild hair structure damaged by color/heat. Not cheap ($40-75) but actually work.

Worth it if: You color regularly, use heat tools daily, or have damaged hair

↘️ Keratin Treatments (Traditional)

Still popular in Florida (humidity!), but losing ground to less permanent options. People want flexibility.

The evolution: Lighter, shorter-lasting treatments (8-10 weeks vs. 12-16)

What's Not "Trendy" But You Should Consider Anyway

Trends are fun. But some things aren't trendy—they're just... good. Here's what we recommend even though it won't make any "2025 trend" lists:

Regular Trims

Boring? Yes. Essential? Also yes. Every 8-12 weeks keeps split ends from traveling up the hair shaft.

Professional Products

Not trendy. Just better. Drugstore shampoo works, but professional formulas work BETTER—especially in Florida humidity.

Finding YOUR Style

The most important "trend" is figuring out what works for YOUR face shape, hair texture, lifestyle, and maintenance commitment. That never goes out of style.

What's Trending Specifically in Delray Beach

National trends are one thing. What we're actually seeing at 403 E Atlantic Ave and around South Florida:

Low-Maintenance Luxury

Our clients want to look expensive without the time investment. Lived-in color, expensive bobs, natural texture.

Why: Beach lifestyle + professional requirements = need for versatility

Humidity-Resistant Everything

Styles that survive 90% humidity. Keratin treatments still huge here (less so elsewhere). Embracing texture instead of fighting it.

Reality: What works in LA doesn't work in Florida

Natural, Sun-Kissed Color

Everyone wants to look like they spend time outdoors (because they do). Warm blondes, natural brunettes with dimension.

Bonus: Grows out beautifully in our climate

Investment in Hair Health

Sun, salt, chlorine—Florida is tough on hair. Bond treatments, scalp care, and quality products are non-negotiable.

We see more treatment bookings than most salons

The Chris David Salon Perspective on Trends

We're a boutique salon (4.9★, 140+ reviews). We're not trend-chasers—we're trend-translators.

Our Approach:

  • We show you the trend (photos, examples, what makes it work)
  • We translate it to YOUR hair (texture, lifestyle, face shape)
  • We're honest about maintenance (time + money required)
  • We offer the wearable version (trend-inspired, not trend-enslaved)

Larger salons like Rové (5.0★, 1500+ reviews) excel at high-volume trend delivery. Salon Sora (4.9★, 400+ reviews) does amazing editorial work. We're the salon that asks: "Yes, but will you actually style this every day?"

Complimentary Trend Consultation Includes:

  • • Analysis of current trends that suit your features
  • • Realistic timeline and budget for transformation
  • • Maintenance requirements (time + products + frequency)
  • • Alternative options if your inspiration isn't realistic
